New page

Wikimedia-stub
So you went all out with your homelab and bought yourself some physical kit and are looking for somewhere to store it? Well you came to the right place...

Introduction
There are a number of different rack solutions, depending on what homelab category and chassis type you choose.

Standard Racks
A 19-inch rack is a standardized frame or enclosure for mounting multiple equipment modules. Each module has a front panel that is 19 inches (482.6 mm) wide. The 19-inch dimension includes the edges or ears that protrude on each side which allow the module to be fastened to the rack frame with screws. Most Server racks are 42U in height, but can be found in other flavors (12U, 24U etc...)

Silent Racks
Silent racks can vary across a gamut of styles, effectiveness and budgets, from the most basic rack with some acoustic absorption materials to a purpose built (and extremely expensive) rack unit which completely silences all but the loudest of kit!

* Aiino ClusterMaster - Comes in 6U/12U format and has some basic sound dampening features. Originally sold for Apple XServe hardware and with a RRP in the $3,000 range they can be now found cheap on eBay.

Lack Racks
Almost the antithesis of the silent rack, the Lack Rack is the cheapest and potentially noisiest rack solution available to support standard 19" servers, but it is most certainly effective!

Lack Rack

Small Racks
Custom Racks
Custom racks are, as the name suggests, custom! They can be anything from a purpose built set of shelves to fit your specific requirements and physical host dimensions, to something built out of Lego! They will support your
