ECC (Error Correction Code) RAM is typically used in servers and high-end systems to protect against data corruption automatically correcting and detecting memory errors.
You can tell if your memory is ECC by counting the number of chips on it. Standard RAM will have eight banks of memory chips. ECC memory has nine chips.
